20th September 2011, the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) held a book donation ceremony to receive 34 books in French offered by Mr. Franck Pezza - Head of the Wallonie - Brussels delegation, Belgium. The donated books have become one of valuable materials in French sources to NLV. Books donated from the Wallonie - Bruxelles delegation will enable Vietnamese readers update their knowledge on science and have deepen understanding of Belgium and French Community in Wallonie
In celebration of 66th Anniversary of August Revolution and the Independence Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2nd 1945 – September 2nd 2011) and the Vietnamese Tourism Year 2011 themed “Exotic beaches and islands”, under the approval of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam. Today, the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) in cooperation with Publishing Directorate, Publishing Houses, Book companies, corporations, central and local agencies, provincial/municipal libraries nationwide and international organizations in Hanoi organizes an "exhibition on pictures, photos, maps and documents entitled “Ha Long Bay, exotic Beaches and Islands of Vietnam”.
In the morning of 12th July 2011, delegation from Publishing and Library Department, Ministry of Information and Culture, Laos had a working visit to the National Library of Vietnam (NLV). During the meeting, the leaders of NLV and the National Library of Laos discussed issues related to digitalize materials, develop library services, promote reading culture, mobile library services, materials exchange, develop Vietnnamese collection in Laos and Laos collection in Vietnam etc.,
On 22nd June 2011, the meeting on preliminary assessment of Cataloguing in Publication (CIP) program was held at the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) in the cooperation between the Publishing Directorate, Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) and NLV. The meeting aimed to sum up partially activities of CIP program implemented in Vietnam since December 2009, gained practical experience and contribution on program procession as preparation for next step.
Activities implemented within framework of the Pilot Project: “Improvement of computer usage and public Internet access ability in Vietnam” funded by the Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation (U.S.A) from the 24th to 29th May 2011. The PMU of the pilot project – Vietnam Public Utility Telecommunication Service Fund (VTF) coordinated with the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) and three provincial libraries in Thái Nguyên, Nghệ An and Trà Vinh successfully held the Internet Festivals (IF) in three districts and communes in the three mentioned provinces.
The 19th Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNL-AO19) was held from 16 to 19 of May 2011 in Seoul, Korea under the theme "Envisioning the future: the role of national library in the new era ". In celebration of the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s departure to the world to seek suitable pathways for the country’s salvation and the 121st birthday anniversary of him and welcome the 13th National Assembly and People’s Council elections at all levels for the 2011-2016 term, in the morning of May, 18th, the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) held a documentary exhibition on “65-year National Assembly of Vietnam”.
In the morning of May 5, 2011, the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) in cooperation with The Asia Foundation (U.S.A) launched the two-day training course on enhancing reader service provision for over 50 librarians of recipient libraries in the South and South Central provinces of Vietnam under the Books for Asia program (BFA program) funded by The Asia Foundation (TAF).
From April 18-22, 2011, the 2nd CONSAL XV Executive Meeting was taken place in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia with the participation of 20 delegates from 10 CONSAL member countries including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Besides, there are 2 representatives of Timor-Leste and 8 members of CONSAL Secretariat.
In the morning of April 26, 2011, the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) received Hanoi French Club delegation headed by Ms. Alexandra De Broca, French Lady Ambassador to Vietnam at the NLV. The delegation has visited the exhibition "Books and users-friendly environment" at the library hall, reading rooms and collections of the NLV. Especially, the delegation has got a chance to visit the Indochina books store, one of the precious heritage materials being stored and preserved at the NLV. Hanoi French club members admired very much the value of rare collections of the NLV as well as preservation and conservation of those collections at the NLV. They hope to become close users of the NLV in the near future.
