On January 5th, 2012 the National Library of Viet Nam in cooperation with the United States Embassy, Hanoi organized the Exhibition “Using safe, rational and effective Medicine”.
At this exhibition, the National Library of Viet Nam has introduced with the public about 500 typical materials on the theme Medicine with the aim to confirm the huge role of medicine in prevention and treatment of diseases, history of medicine, types of medicine, how to differentiate standard medicine from counterfeit medicine and preservation of medicine. These materials have all been printed in books, published in newspapers and magazines with visual images which can be easily to be approached.
Besides, the National Library of Viet Nam has also closely cooperated with the USAID/ Viet Nam and the Viet Nam National Institute of Drug Quality Control to select and introduce with the public some technical medical materials on safe medicine.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, United States Ambassador to Viet Nam, David B. Shear said“This important event will help achieve our shared goal of empowering consumers and medical professionals to identify and avoid counterfeit drugs,”.
After the exhibition opening, Ambassador David B. Shear has paid a tour visit to Reading Rooms of the National Library of Viet Nam.
Within the framework of exhibition, at the same day, the public has also had a chance to participate in a Talk of the same topic in two specific themes “International Experience in managing and using safe medicine” delivered by Dr. Mehmood Anwar, deputy director Viet Nam for Management Sciences for Health; and “Situations and Recommendations for using safe Medicine in Viet Nam” by Professor Doctor Trinh Van Quy, Former Director of the National Institute of Drug Quality Control, Former President of Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia.
Through the Exhibition and Talk about Safe Medicine at the National Library of Viet Nam, readers have had more knowledge about medicine, way of using medicine as well as benefits of using safe, rational and effective medicine so that they can avoid harmful effects of counterfeit medicine and sub-standard pharmaceutical products.
The Exhibition will be opened free to the public until January 12, 2011.
