I. The NLV collections
Currently, the NLV has a monograph collection of over 2.5 million items and a digitized collection of almost 5 million pages created by the NLV. Among that significant cultural heritage, there are precious and rare collections since the 17th century such as the followings:
- 5,280 Han-Nom manuscript items;
- 68,500 Indochina items with 1,700 newspaper-magazine titles;
- 21,300 Doctorial Thesis of Vietnamese citizens protected at home and abroad and of foreigners protected in Viet Nam;
- 3,996 items published in the period of resistance 1946-1954;
- 680,000 items equivalent to about 1,580,000 copies (including: books, newspapers, magazines, descriptions, paintings, pieces of music, maps and many other special publications). These collections are in Vietnamese and written about Viet Nam collected under the legal deposit act since the year 1922;
- 500,000 items of foreign language collections collected under book exchange and book donation programs with libraries and information institutions, organizations and individuals domestic and abroad;
- 9,000 titles of Vietnamese and foreign newspapers, magazines;
- 10,000 titles of books published in Viet Nam before 1954 gifted by the National Library of France in the format of microfilm and microfiche;
- Full-text digitized databases created by the NLV with 4,995,000 pages, including such databases as: Doctorial Thesis, Sino-Nom, Indochina, books, newspapers, magazines published in Viet Nam, ancient maps about Ha Noi, Thang Long – Ha Noi bookcase;
- Full-text Databases that are purchased by the NLV or received from donation programs: Vietnamese law, ProQuest, Keesings, Wilson, Europe Business Management (EBM), Springer Images, Doctoral Thesis, e-books of IG Publishing, French law, English books about Viet Nam, Traditional Theatre Opera, CD, DVD, etc...;
- Besides, there are also a number of special publications and information carriers such as: paintings, images, maps, thousands of foreign language items written about Viet Nam or written and published by Vietnamese citizens overseas, etc.
These materials have been storing and widely promoting among user community domestic and overseas.
II. GENERAL RESUTLS OF DIGITIZING COLLECTIONS AT THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF VIET NAM
Currently, the NLV full-text database resources are quite significant and have the growing potential in the coming time under the implementation of major digitization projects and cooperation with publishers. The followings are statistics of several collections digitized and promoted by the NLV.
