NATIONAL LIBRARY OF VIETNAM

On 11^th January 2012, the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) organizes Conference of officials and employees and summarizes the Party work 2011; implementation of the work plan 2012.

Attending and steering the Conference were Mr. Huynh Vinh Ai, Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam (MoCST) and other distinguised guests including Mr. Pham Quoc Chinh - Deputy Director General of Publishing Directorate, Ministry of Information and Communication; Mr. Phung Minh Cuong - Deputy Director of Personnel Department, MoCST; Mrs. Duong Thuy Nga Vu - Deputy Director of Library Department; Mr. Le Ngoc Luong – Secretary to the central agencies’ Youth Union; Mr. Trinh Ngoc Trung – Secretary to the MoCST’s Youth Union; Ms. Tran Thuy Van – Member the Standing Committee of the MoCST’s Trade Union; Mr.Vu Duc Hanh - Senior lieutenant-colonel, Head of the Department No.4, Department of Internal Political Security, Ministry of Public Security; Mr.Pham The Khang – President of Vietnamese Library Association .

Year 2011 is the year of many national important events such as the 11^th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, National Assembly of Vietnam election and People's Councils at all levels for the 2011-2015 tenure. It is also the first year to deploy, perform 5 years plan of economic – society development (2011-2015). However, the negative impacts of economic recession in the most countries of the world, Vietnamese economic - society situation has faced many difficulties and challenges, especially in 2011 is the year implement Instruction No.11/CT-CP of the Government decreasing public investment, practise thrift and waste combat.

Based on the orientation of the MoCST, concurrently implement function and mission, direction, work plan of the institution in 2011 approved by the Ministry's leaders and promote communicating with the spirit of initiative, creativity and the goal: "Building a friendly and modern reading environment for all citizens’ lifelong learning”, deserving the role as central library of the country, all officials and employees of the NLV have overcome the difficulties, challenges and achieved positive results:

• The works of the Party, Trade Union, Youth Union, Veterans have been focused and facilitated activities which results in many achievements;
• Professional works have been renovated to shorten processing documents effectively; deposit and acquisition’s works have been continued and promoted collecting; materials preservation is maintained regularly.
• The research and professional guidance’s works are focused, many researches on library professional standards have been done; concurrently completed the DDC22/23 translation version, the scientific researches at Ministry level has been deploying; tens of many professional training workshops and conferences have been organized.
• IT application has been continued to invest, improve infrastructure, responding to e-library activities at the NLV.
• Foreign work has resulted in many successes; especially marinating and developing relationship with domestic and foreign partners; many projects have been implemented by the NLV; especially strengthening the relationship with publishers and bookstores.
• The reading and reference services have been renovated, achieved positive results; exhibitions, book display and introduction are always follow up political, cultural, economic, social missions of the country; creating friendly environment to enable readers maximum exploitation of knowledge of the nation and the world by acquisition of domestic information resources and online databases on various subjects. Especially, NLV launches website in 3 languages Vietnamese, French and English which aim to share news, information resources and working experiences with the world library community; domestic and foreign friends acknowledged and encouraged.

The Resolution has been adopted at the Conference which determined the direction, key tasks in 2012 toward 95^th anniversary of the National Library of Vietnam’s establishment, year 2012 is the year to implement phase 1 of the work plan to improve the library followed up the model "National Library: Traditional - modern -  Digital National Library"; striving to achieve "First-class Independence Medal" by the State.

In the afternoon of the same day, the NLV’s Party Committee has summarized the Party’s works 2011 and approved the direction in 2012 with key tasks and missions: perform well the role as political nucleus of the institution; building strong and typical institution; NLV’s leaders have successfully completed the assigned missions; continue implementing the goal “Building a friendly and modern reading environment for all citizens’ lifelong learning”; striving to achieve excellence emulation flag of the Government and First class Independence Medal, towards celebrating the 95^th anniversary of National Library of Vietnam establishment.

At the Conference, the Party Committee of Culture, Sport and Tourism has awarded 30-year Party badge for 3 Party members of  the Party Cells of the National Library of Vietnam including Nguyen Nhu Ha, Kieu Van Hot, Nguyen Cong To.
