On the 40th anniversary of Viet Nam – Argentina diplomatic relations (1973-2013), Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in cooperation with Ministry of Culture of the Argentine Republic organized a photos exhibition entitled "Eva Perón - Ambassador of Peace"and presentation of the book “The reason of my life” at the National Library of Viet Nam. The event is a part of the Argentine Cultural Week-long event in Viet Nam.
In the morning of November 29th 2013, launching ceremony and inauguration of the training workshop on "Dewey Decimal Classification - Vietnamese Edition 23" (DDC23) has been held at the National Library of Viet Nam. This is one of three important international tools for information access and exchange in library – information activities being used by over 200,000 libraries in 138 countries. Translation and printing of the Dewey Decimal Classification - Vietnamese Edition 23 are done deriving from practical benefits of cataloguing, contributing to unification, standardization, information exchange and international integration of Vietnamese libraries, and at the same time basing on the demand for application of DDC in Vietnamese libraries. After the launching ceremony of the Vietnamese DDC23, the National Library of Viet Nam has held a ToT training workshop for the Dewey Decimal Classification - Vietnamese Edition 23 for representatives of some libraries, information centers, special libraries and library training institutions in Viet Nam. The training workshop is lectured by Dr. Julianne Beall, Assistant Editor of the Dewey Decimal Classification and lasts from November 29th until December 6th 2013. In the year 2014, the NLV will organize further training courses for using the Vietnamese DDC23 for all libraries and information centers nation wide.
In the afternoon of September 26th, at the National Library of Viet Nam, the Ministry of Information and Communication coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Embassy of the United Kingdom to Viet Nam to organize a Book Exhibition to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Viet Nam – United Kingdom diplomatic relations. At the exhibition, the Organizing Committee has selected to exhibit about 1,000 precious documents, publications in English and Vietnamese which are being housed at the National Library of Viet Nam. These publications covering such fields as History, Politics, Economics, Culture, Art-Literature, Science-Technology, etc. have helped outline the development of the United Kingdom – a foggy land from England to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Especially, this is also a chance for book lovers to approach many famous English literature works which have been translated and published in Viet Nam decades ago.Beside displaying publications, the Exhibition also introduced to the public many documentary photos reflexing the comprehensive collaboration between Governments and the people of the two countries...
To implement the duty assigned by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam (MoCST) to the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) in building the national standards for library activities, on 30th August 2013, a Symposium entitled “Discussion and Contribution for the draft TCVN: Library activities – Terminologies and Definitions. Part 1. Basic Terminologies” has been co-organized at the NLV by Department of Science, Technology and Environment (MoCST) and the National Library of Viet Nam. The aim of the Symposium is to highlight the role of standardization in library activities and complete content of the library standards that have been compiled. The aim of standardization of the Library - Information activities is to reach an unification in description and catalogue of the library materials as well as creation of user service methods and library-information products towards low cost, high efficiency and time saving, etc. while benefits of the users and librarians are still ensured.
On 18th August 2013, the 79th World Library and Information Conference has officially opened at Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Singapore. For Southeast Asia reagion, this is the second time in the 85 year-history of IFLA hosts the Conference since the last IFLA WILIC 1999 in Bangkok, Thailand. The IFLA WILIC 2013 took place on 18-22 August 2013 under the theme“Future Libraries: Infinite Possibilities”. The Conference has attracted 3,750 library and information experts from 120 countries in the world. Vietnamese delegation headed by the National Library of Viet Nam (the NLV), an official member of IFLA, has sent 18 delegates to the Conference.
With support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam, on the 21st April 2013, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) has co-operated with the Ministries, Government agencies, Departments, Provinces, Cities, Embassies, NGOs in the countries annually celebrate the Book Reading Festival Day. Over 8 years of development, Reading Festival Day at the National Library of Viet Nam has become an operational model, to be replicated in the libraries across the country, contributing to promote reading in the community and attract majority of people attended. With a desire to continue promoting the best results, confirming the great value of books; honoring the authors, written works, publishers, printing and distribution; role of books, libraries and readers in the society; for a learning society; toward selecting the National Book Reading Festival Day. The Book Reading Festival Day 2013 themed “For a learning society” with many activities have been renovated in content, rich in format to further affirm the great value of reading.
In honor of the Cross Year Viet Nam - France 2013, 08 April 2013, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) organized the ceremony of books donated by the French National Book Centre (NLC), the National Library of France (BNF) and the Embassy of France and Exhibition "Space of French Book". The more than 1,200 books available this time by the French National Book Centre were selected by experts from the National Library of France, including many areas of culture, history, literature, poetry, art, philosophy and law. 780 valuable books on French law have been provided by the Embassy of France in Viet Nam. These books were added to the heritage of the National Library of Viet Nam, allowing the Vietnamese and foreign readers better understand the areas of life as well as the characteristics of the French culture.
On April 8th 2013 – under the permission of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV), Francophone Digital Network (Réseau francophone numérique /RFN) and International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) jointly held the general assembly of the Réseau francophone numérique 2013 in Ha Noi. This is an annual meeting of RFN organized by OIF and national libraries of member countries with the view to establish a Francophone digital library based on the linkage among digital libraries of Francophone community members. The general assembly this year focused on such main contents as report on operation of the Réseau’s web portal, contribution of information resources to the portal by member countries, innovation of technology to access the RFN web...
On the 4th of February 2013, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) and the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) held a signing ceremony on the Cooperation Program between the MoCST and the MIC for the period 2013-2020. This cooperation program is to concretize the strategic plan for Culture Development toward the year 2020 which had been approved by the Premier of the Government at the Decree number 581/QĐ-TTg dated May 6th, 2009. According to this strategic plan, the aim of the culture sector in the field of library is “To build the reading habit among the society contributing to effectively build the future reader generations”, “… to promote the development of commune libraries and reading rooms in the communities, precincts, cultural groups as well as cultural post offices in the highland, border, island and remote areas and minority regions.
In the afternoon of 24th January 2013, the journalist and writer Ho Quang Loi visited and donated 63 book copies entitled “Viet Nam on the wave of the times” to the National Library of Viet Nam and 63 provincial libraries of the Vietnamese library system. Especially, the author directly recorded words on books donated to each recipient library; this is really the sincere gesture of the author given to the libraries. With the trust and love to the library, the writer wishes “Viet Nam on the wave of the times” will be sent to the numerous readers of the country
