To carry out the duty assigned by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) on implementing projects of developing National Standards, in the morning of April 17, 2018, the NLV held a meeting to carry out the project on developing the National Standard “Information and Documentation: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in libraries”. The project is developed on the basis of accepting "ISO 28560:2014 Information and Documentation - RFID in libraries". The standard consists of three parts, defining a standard data model and encoding rules for the use of radio frequency identification tags (RFID) for the documents that meet the needs of all library types including: national library, public libraries, academic libraries, special libraries and school libraries. Part 1 provides data elements and general guidelines for implementation. Part 2 and Part 3 describe the process of encoding and selecting frequencies, interfaces between RFID readers and library systems (or other applications) that are handled by SIP-2 and NCIP.
In the afternoon of March 20, 2018, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Viet Nam, Augusto Morelli had a working visi at the National Library of Vietnam. Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga, Director of the National Library of Viet Nam welcomed the delegation. On March 19, 2018, the Hungarian Embassy in Viet Nam co-operated with the National Library of Viet Nam to organize a poster exhibition on the life and career of the Hungarian composer Kodály Zoltán with the name: "Let the world rejoice". Attending the Opening Ceremony there were Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa - Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Karolyi Marton - Deputy Head of Mission of Hungarian Embassy to Viet Nam; Ambassadors, Heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of embassies and international organizations in Ha Noi, the public and readers of the National Library of Viet Nam. Hungary and Vietnam have been sharing 68 years of friendship and cooperation. The people of the two countries always express sincere feelings, solidarity, admiration and support to each other. Exhibition "Let the world rejoice" introduces the life and career of Hungarian composer Kodály Zoltán, He was a great son of Hungary who made his remarkable piece to the great foundation of Hungarian music, and a teacher who is admired by music lovers and learners in Viet Nam and in the world for bringing the Kodaly method to music training and education. In the morning of March 14, 2018, at the National Library of Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dung - Deputy Director and several Heads of NLV’s Departments have welcomed Mr. Andrey V. Zaytsev, Deputy Head of Technology, Presidential Library of the Russian Federation and Ms. Natalia Valerievna Shafinskaia, Director of the Center for Science and Culture of Russia in Ha Noi to the National Library of Viet Nam. The Presidential Library of the Russian Federation is a digital library and is now prioritizing the development of international cooperation related to collections of Russian materials, about Russia and relations between Russia and partner countries. At the meeting, Mr. Andrey V. Zaytsev emphasized the possibility of exchanging digital materials in this field with the National Library of Viet Nam and was pleased to announce that his library has just created a new digital collection about Russian-Vietnamese Relations in Russian. On February 21, 2018, the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) organized the spring meeting and the signing ceremony of mutural agreement about Emulation Movement between the Labour Union groups in the Library. Ms. Kieu Thuý Nga - Secretary of Party Committee, on behalf of NLV’s leaders congratulated the Lunar New Year to the whole Library, and mobilized officials, employees and workers determined to maintain the achievements, continue to remain unity, responsibility, initiative, creativity, efforts to overcome all difficulties, strive to improve the performance of successfully accomplished tasks in 2018. In order to launch the Asia Foundation Project to donate English books to Vietnamese libraries in the period of 2017-2022 and to welcome the Asia Foundation Management Board in United States to visit and work in Vietnam, in the morning of January 30, 2018, the National Library of Viet Nam and the Asia Foundation have co-organized a number of reading encouragement activities aimed to promote the use of books which were funded under the signed agreement. The Asian Foundation is a non-governmental organization of the United States working in the non-profit sector. With the aim of helping people in Asia-Pacific have more opportunities to access up-to-date educational resources in English from US publishers, the Asia Foundation has launched the program providing English books to libraries throughout Asia since 1954 and for Vietnam since 1993. With the permission of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the National Library of Vietnam has become the focal point for the implementation of the English book project for Vietnamese libraries since 2000 with the number of books about 40,000 books per year.
In the afternoon of December 21st, 2017, the National Library of Viet Nam held a receiving donated books ceremony during the program "Window on Viet Nam". This is one of the bilateral cooperation activities that have been actively and effectively implemented through the regular exchange of collections in Viet Nam and Korea between the National Library of Viet Nam and the National Library of Korea since 2009 besides the programs on exchange of experts, training staff. With the desire to help Vietnamese readers to understand about the country, people, history, culture and society of Korea, the National Library of Korea had implemented the program "Window on Dynamic Korea" period2009-2012, which was donated the National Library of Viet Nam more than 7,000 books, tapes and DVDs, VCDs, simultaneously, the National Library of Viet Nam had also organized a dynamic Korean Reading Room that attracted readers to use daily. With the results achieved, in June, 2016, two Libraries signed a MOU in order to restart the project for the period 2016-2020. In the morning of December 19th, 2017, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Belarus and 500th anniversary of the Belarusian printing industry, the National Library of Viet Nam helda book donation ceremony to receive the book collection named "Heritage of Frantsisk Skorina" from the Embassy of Belarus in Vietnam. On December 12th, 2017, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) in cooperation with the Embassies of the Portuguese speaking countries in Viet Nam held the book donation ceremony from the Embassy of the four countries: Angola, Brazil, Mozambique and Timor Leste. Attending the ceremony there were H.E. Mr.João Manuel Bernardo - Ambassador of the Republic of Angola; H.E. Mr. Marco Antonio Diniz Brandao - Ambassador of the Republic of Brazil; H.E. Ms. Pascoela Barreto dos Santos - Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste; H.E. Mr. Gamiliel Sepúlveda João Munguambe - Ambassador of the Republic of Mozambique; Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga - Director of the NLV, together with officials and staffs from embassies, and Deputy Directors and Head of Divisions of the NLV. These donated books include many topics such as: history, culture… which have been carefully selected from the Embassies and they will be added to the Portuguese and English books collection that are availableat the NLV.
