The National Library of Viet Nam organized the Spring meeting and the signing ceremony of mutural agreement about Emulation Movement between the Labour Union groups

On February 21, 2018, the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) organized the spring meeting and the signing ceremony of mutural agreement about Emulation Movement between the Labour Union groups in the Library. Ms. Kieu Thuý Nga - Secretary of Party Committee, on behalf of NLV’s leaders congratulated the Lunar New Year to the whole Library, and mobilized officials, employees and workers determined to maintain the achievements, continue to remain unity, responsibility, initiative, creativity, efforts to overcome all difficulties, strive to improve the performance of successfully accomplished tasks in 2018. At the meeting, NLV’s Labour Union launched the 2018 Emulation Movement and held a signing ceremony for emulation among the unions in the Library. With the theme: Ethics, Creativity, Professionalism, Effectiveness, Emulation content has been following closely with the key tasks of the Library in 2018: Emulate to strive to exceed the work plan of 2018’s quality and efficiency...

 

National Library of Viet Nam and the Asia Foundation organize reading encouragement acitivities

In order to launch the Asia Foundation Project to donate English books to Vietnamese libraries in the period of 2017-2022 and to welcome the Asia Foundation Management Board in United States to visit and work in Vietnam, in the morning of January 30, 2018, the National Library of Viet Nam and the Asia Foundation have co-organized a number of reading encouragement activities aimed to promote the use of books which were funded under the signed agreement. The Asian Foundation is a non-governmental organization of the United States working in the non-profit sector. With the aim of helping people in Asia-Pacific have more opportunities to access up-to-date educational resources in English from US publishers, the Asia Foundation has launched the program providing English books to libraries throughout Asia since 1954 and for Vietnam since 1993. With the permission of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the National Library of Vietnam has become the focal point for the implementation of the English book project for Vietnamese libraries since 2000 with the number of books about 40,000 books per year.

 

Receiving donated Books Ceremony from The National Library of Korea

In the afternoon of December 21st, 2017, the National Library of Viet Nam held a receiving donated books ceremony during the program "Window on Viet Nam". This is one of the bilateral cooperation activities that have been actively and effectively implemented through the regular exchange of collections in Viet Nam and Korea between the National Library of Viet Nam and the National Library of Korea since 2009 besides the programs on exchange of experts, training staff. With the desire to help Vietnamese readers to understand about the country, people, history, culture and society of Korea, the National Library of Korea had implemented the program "Window on Dynamic Korea" period2009-2012, which was donated the National Library of Viet Nam more than 7,000 books, tapes and DVDs, VCDs, simultaneously, the National Library of Viet Nam had also organized a dynamic Korean Reading Room that attracted readers to use daily. With the results achieved, in June, 2016, two Libraries signed a MOU in order to restart the project for the period 2016-2020. Through the Korean Cultural Center in Hanoi, up to now, the National Library of Viet Nam...

 

Receiving donated books Ceremony from Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Viet Nam

In the morning of December 19th, 2017, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Belarus and 500th anniversary of the Belarusian printing industry, the National Library of Viet Nam helda book donation ceremony to receive the book collection named "Heritage of Frantsisk Skorina" from the Embassy of Belarus in Vietnam. Attending the ceremony there were H.E. Mr. Goshin Vladimir Anatolievich - Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Viet Nam, H.E. Ms. Raisa Vardanyan - Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Viet Nam; H.E. Mr. Anar Imanov - Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Viet Nam; H.E. Mr. Jorge Rondon Uzcategui - Ambassador of the Republic of Bolivar Venezuela to Viet Nam; Representatives of Embassies: Poland, Kazakhstan, Russia, Czech Republic; Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga - Director of the NLV, together with Deputy Directors and Head of Divisions of the NLV.

 

Books donation ceremony of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries in Vietnam

On December 12th, 2017, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) in cooperation with the Embassies of the Portuguese speaking countries in Viet Nam held the book donation ceremony from the Embassy of the four countries: Angola, Brazil, Mozambique and Timor Leste. Attending the ceremony there were H.E. Mr.João Manuel Bernardo - Ambassador of the Republic of Angola; H.E. Mr. Marco Antonio Diniz Brandao - Ambassador of the Republic of Brazil; H.E. Ms. Pascoela Barreto dos Santos - Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste; H.E. Mr. Gamiliel Sepúlveda João Munguambe - Ambassador of the Republic of Mozambique; Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga - Director of the NLV, together with officials and staffs from embassies, and Deputy Directors and Head of Divisions of the NLV. These donated books include many topics such as: history, culture… which have been carefully selected from the Embassies and they will be added to the Portuguese and English books collection that are availableat the NLV.

On November 28, 2017, at the Ha Noi Opera House, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) solemnly celebrated its 100th Foundation Day Anniversary and received the First Class Labor Order - a noble award granted to the NLV by President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. National Library of Viet Nam hosts the 3rd Convening of the International Networks of Emerging Library Innovators – Association of Southeast Asian Nations (INELI-ASEAN)

Under the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam (MoCST), on November 27th, 2017, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) opened the 3rd Convening of the International Networks of Emerging Library Innovators – Association of Southeast Asian Nations (INELI-ASEAN) in Ha Noi. Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Dang Thi Bich Lien – Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam, Ms, Nellie Sunny – President of Brunei Darussalam Library Association, Ms. Khanthamaly Yangnouvong – Director of the National Library of Laos, President of Laos Library Association; Ms. Hajah Nafisah Binti Ahmad – General Director of the National Library of Malaysia; Mr. Cesar Gilbert Adriano – Director of the National Library of the Philippines; Ms. Tay Ai Cheng – Deputy Chief Executive of the National Library Board Singapore; Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga – Director of the National Library of Viet Nam, Mr. Nguyen Huu Gioi – President of Vietnamese Library Association, and representatives of the ASEAN national libraries and library associations, speakers, invited guests, mentors, innovators and INELI-ASEAN Secretariat.

 

Launching Ceremony of the Cataloguing Rules “Resource Description and Access” (Vietnamese edition)

In the morning of the 22nd November 2017, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) solemnly hold the launching ceremony of the cataloguing rules “Resource Description and Access” – Vietnamese edition. Attending the ceremony were Ms. Vu Duong Thuy Nga – Director of the Library Department, Mr. Nguyen Huu Gioi – President of Vietnamese Library Association, Mr. Hoang Quoc Tri – Vice President of Vietnamese Scientific and Technological Information Association, Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga – Director of the NLV, advisory board members, representatives of the Training Department, the Science, Technology and Environment Department – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, representatives of public libraries, special libraries, LIS training institutions… The cataloguing rules Resource Description and Access (RDA) is the successor to Anglo-American Cataloguing rules, second edition (AACR2) and is designed for the digital environment in response to the changes and developments of the information resources. The birth of RDA marks a significant change, is an advance in cataloguing activity in particular and in the library science in general. It has therefore been officially applied in many major libraries in the world. The project translation and printing of RDA derives from the requirement to modernize the library-information activities, and for the purposes of enhancing the exchange and sharing of information, integrating into the world library community, and especially for the standardization of the technical processing activity.

 

Opening Ceremony of the Children’s Cultural Library in Viet Nam

In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Korea and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the National Library of Viet Nam, under the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST), in the morning of November 16th, 2017, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) and the International Cultural Foundation, Korea (ICF) organized the Opening ceremony of the “Children Cultural Library in Viet Nam”. Attending the ceremony were, from Viet Nam Central agencies: Mr. Huynh Vinh Ai – Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Hoang Minh Dao – Director General, the National Assembly Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children, Ms. Vu Duong Thuy Nga, Director General of the Library Department, Mr. Le Ngoc Dinh – Vice Director General of the International Cooperation Department, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Lien – Vice Director General of the Planning and Finance Department, Mr. Le Ngoc Trung – Deputy Director General of the Emulation and Reward Department; From South Korean representatives: Mr. Cho Hyun Jae – President of ICF, Mr. Nam Ik Huyn – Director of the 1% Nanum Foundation, Huyndai Oilbank, Ms. Lee Miyon – Envoy, Embassy of South Korea in Viet Nam, Mr. Yoon Kwang Shik – General Secretary of ICF…; Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga – Director of the NLV; representatives of departments and agencies under the MoCST, representatives of Ha Noi department of Education and Training, international organizations; representatives of libraries and library-information centers, museums, publishing agencies, primary and kindergartens in Ha Noi and the readers.

 

83rd IFLA World Library – Information Congress in Wroclaw, Poland

From August 19-25, 2017, the 83rd IFLA World Library – Information Congress has taken place in Wroclaw, Republic of Poland. With the aim of achieving the global solidarity of the library sector worldwide to ensure the ability to make a difference in the people’s lives, enabling people to use knowledge to improve the society conditions, theme of the 83rd IFLA WLIC was selected: “Libraries. Solidarity. Society”. The Congress brings together over 3,100 library – information leaders and experts from more than 122 countries in the worlds. Right after the Congress’s opening ceremony, over 240 scientific presentations, dozens of satellite conferences, seminars, open forums, panel discussions on current situation and future of the world library development have taken place.
