The aims of the projects are strengthening relations in the field of library, identifyingfuture challenges, opportunities and priority activities which the library environment can respond to rapid changes in society; thereby build concrete action planstoturnglobal visioninto reality. This is an opportunity for regional delegates tomeet anddiscuss to build a common visiontogetherand concrete action plans to turnthe vision of the future libraryinto reality.
Since the year 2000, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has approved the NLV to become an official member of IFLA. Since then, the Ministry has created favorable conditions for the NLV to actively participate and fulfill its responsibilities in the Association's activities such as sending representatives to attend congresses, conferences, seminars, programs, and projects of the IFLA.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism believed thatIFLA Global Vision Regional Workshop Asia and Oceania will accomplish the project objectives outlined: strengthening relationships in the field of library, identifying the challenges and opportunities in the future and the priority activities to meet rapid changes in society, contributing to build the library field together, creating the power and unity of action to empower literate informed and participative societies.
Introducing the project, Glòria Pérez-Salmerón, President of the IFLA, stated that access to global information would be a major target for humanity today, which would determine whether people achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals or not. IFLA’s global vision is to seek answers to global challenges, to identify opportunities and to create the future as expected. The task of librarians is not only to operate the library and the information center, consensus and achieve consensus on standards and guidelines for the library's work, but also to bring a better life for each individual. This task focuses on changing thinking, building social engagement, and creating a network of leaders that advocates for key issues such as information dissemination, digital transformation, innovation, digital preservation and copyright reform.Librarians can not achieve their goals if only focus on the region or the globe. Therefore, libraries and library associations need to be strong to share their vision and contribute to the success of the project. It is crucial that all libraries must have the same vision, shareresponsibilities and coordinate activities to achieve optimal results worldwide, and build a unified library fieldtogether.
The workshop took place in 2 days, from 23 - 25 May 2018.
