The 19th Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNL-AO19) was held from 16 to 19 of May 2011 in Seoul, Korea under the theme "Envisioning the future: the role of national library in the new era ". There were 25 delegates from 20 National Libraries for in Asia and Oceania including Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, China, Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Kiribati. Delegation from Vietnam attended the meeting including 02 members (Mrs. Phan Thi Kim Dzung, Director of the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, Deputy Head of International Relations, NLV).

At the Conference, CDNL-AO members presented the report updating the library activities of their own country from the previous conference – CDNL-AO 18 (April 2010 to May 2011): developments and innovation, experience sharing on the expertise of each member country. In addition, some issues attracted interest among member countries were discussed at the Conference such as: e-publications legal deposit; standards for digitalization of content of audio-visual, open access to the research materials.Presentation on specific subjects: Earthquake and Tsunami at the from the National Diet Library; Japan-China-Korea digital program, status report, case study from the National Library of Korea on services for disabilities; presentation on national policy for special interest group from the National Library of Korea.
Besides meeting among member countries, a Seminar on "Leadership, Governance and policy in national libraries” has already attracted the attention of the nearly 300 delegates are officials and experts in the library and information field in Korea. Presented at the Conference, the Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea has delivered his congratulatory speech. The NLV is in honored to be invited delivering a paper at the Seminar; Mrs. Phan Thi Kim Dung, Director shared the colleagues experiences, lessons outcomes gained and solutions: “Building a cultural environment, the National Library of Vietnam become a friendly destination for domestic and international readers”. The paper was highly appreciated by participants.

On this occasion, participants had chance to visit National Library of Korea, Digital Library, National Library for Children and Young Adults. Besides, the Conference delegates had opportunities to discover Korean culture through Korean cuisine, Nanta cooking performance, visiting Changdeok Palace.

On this trip to Korea, Delegation from NLV also visited Asean-Korea Centre in Seoul at the invitation of the Centre officials visited and worked with the NLV in November 2010.
Overall, CDNL-AO was successful, full implementation of the programme, proposed content, achieved consensus, high consistency of all the member countries.
