In the morning of February 15, 2011, at the National Library of Vietnam (NLV), the MoU signing ceremony on cooperation between National Library of Vietnam and National Library of France (NLF) was held. Attending the ceremony were Mr. Lê Khánh Hải, Vice-Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam (MoCST), Mr. Nguyễn Kiểm, Director of Publishing Department – Ministry of Information and Communication, Ms. Ngô Phương Lan, Vice-Director of International Cooperation Department (MoCST); Ms. Nguyễn Thị Thanh Mai, Director of Library Department (MoCST), Ms. Vũ Thị Tề Khương and Ms. Nguyễn Bích Vân, Vice-Directors of Emulation and Reward Department (MoCST), and representatives from libraries and information centers, museums, publishing houses in Hanoi. On partner side, NLV has the honor to welcome Mr. Estienne de Gonneville – Deputy Head of the Mission, Embassy of France to Vietnam, Mr. Patrick Michel – Cultural Attaché, Director of French Cultural Centre Hanoi; Mr. Bruno Racine – President of National Library of France and Mr. Gérald Grunberg – Director of International Relations, NLF.
Signing of MoU on cooperation between National Library of Vietnam and National Library of France
During the last years, the bilateral cooperation relations between Vietnam and French Republic on politics, economics, culture and other fields has been more and more developed. In the field of culture, cultural exchange events between Vietnam and France have become annual activities promoting the centennial traditional relations of friendship and multual understanding between the two nations.
Originating from the long-term relations between the two cultures of France and Vietnam; with the desire to better promote this traditional relationship and open new chances for cooperation between NLV and NLF, under the support of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, Ministry of Culture and Communication of French Republic, French Embassy to Vietnam, L’Espace – French Cultural Centre Hanoi; within the framework of the working visit to Vietnam by NLF President, Mr. Bruno Racine, NLF has entered into an MoU of cooperation with NLV in the term of 3 years. Areas of cooperation under this MoU include issues of mutual interests such as cooperation in preservation and conservation, digitalization of materials, exchange of materials and experiences in preservation of written cultural herritage, materials in French, etc. Especially, two libraries is seeking chances for implementing joint projects on digitalization within the framework of Francophone network for digital national libraries (RFBNN) which the two libraries are members.
On this occasion, NVL launched its website in French and English for readers and friends in the world can access, search materials and explore NLV digital resources at http://nlv.gov.vn/en-fr. It is believed that the website will become a bridge to connect readers with thousands of NLV materials in French published since XVII century until now on such fields as history, economics, politics, cultue, society, etc. This will also help readers to better understand about history of the two countries as well as connection of the two cultures.
