Training course on enhancement of reader service provision for librarians

In the morning of May 5, 2011, the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) in cooperation with The Asia Foundation (U.S.A) launched the two-day training course on enhancing reader service provision for over 50 librarians of recipient libraries in the South and South Central provinces of Vietnam under the Books for Asia program (BFA program) funded by The Asia Foundation (TAF).

Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Van Tan, Chief – Director of the representative agency of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Phan Thi Kim Dzung - director of the NLV; Ms. Melody Zavala – director of  the Books for Asia Program, The Asia Foundation headquaters in San Francisco, U.S.A; Ms. Tran Thi Gin – Deputy Director of General Sciences Library in Ho Chi Minh City. 

The training course’s aim is to provide librarians with supplementary training on service and communication skills while operating reader services, new requirements for provision of library services, roles and tasks of librarians in the era of information technology, needed resources to create the changes as well as methods to mobilize social resources’ support for library activities.

The training course lasted for 2 days, May 5 - 6, 2011 at the General Sciences Library of Ho Chi Minh City. It is planned that the similar training course for librarians of recipient libraries in the North and North Central provinces of Vietnam will be organized in Hanoi in early 2012.

After the training course, staff of NLV and TAF have paid several site survey visits to recipient libraries of the BFA program in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and Tra Vinh province.

Also during this business trip to the South provinces, the delegation of NLV headed by director Phan Thi Kim Dzung has visited and presented books to Tay Ninh Provincial Library, district libraries in Hòa Thành, Bến Cầu, Trảng Bàng, Tân Châu, Châu Thành, Gò Dầu, Dương Minh Châu, Tân Biên, Tây Ninh town library and Suối Đá commune library.
