The National Library of Viet Nam hosts Book Festival Day 2016

In responding to Viet Nam Book Day April 21^st; World Book and Copyright Day April 23^rd, in the morning of 21^st April, 2016, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) has opened the Book Festival 2016 with the theme:“Book – Renovation, Integration, Development”. Attending the Festival are Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien– Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism of Viet Nam; Mr. Bui The Duc – Deputy head of Central Propaganda Department; Mr. Pham Van Linh - Deputy head of Central Propaganda Department; Mr. Pham Minh Hac – Former Minister of Education; Mr. Do Quy Doan – President of the Viet Nam Publishing Association, Former Vice Minister of Information and Communications; Mr. Pham Khac Hai – Former Vice Minister of Information and Communications; leaders representing Offices, Departments, Institutes, Associations of Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Education and Training; embassies, international organizations in Hanoi; agencies of news, newspapers, televisions; publishing, issuing agencies, libraries, universities, high schools, secondary schools, primary schools, researchers, scholars, historians, writers, organizations, individuals along with a wide range of readers in all ages.

By inheriting successes after 10 years of implementing this event at the NLV, Book Festival Day 2016 is organized with a variety of activities. Participants will be open to opportunities to meet up and exchange with authors, literary critics, historians, librarians, readers… in the series of activities carrying social and educational meaning such as: Documentary exhibition “Book – Renovation, Integration, Development”; Round table discussion between authors – the works; The 11^thViet Nam Book Award - 2015 ceremony; Book reading contest; Painting through book contest; Product creativity contest; Book storytelling in Vietnamese and English contest; Authors, literary works Identity contest; Game shows; Book Festival,….

Documentary Exhibition: "Books - Integration, Renovation, Development", with more than 500 typical materials published after 1986, provides the public and readers useful information about the process of Viet Nam integration, renovation, development, along with the promotion and introduction of culture, country, people and achievements in various fields that the Vietnamese people have accomplished after 30 years of renovation.

Round table discussion between authors – the works, with the participation of speakers: Historian Duong Trung Quoc, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Son, Author Tran Hung John, Doctor of Education Thuy Anh, Poet - Journalist Huu Viet…In addition, the public and readers are introduced and learn more about some of the award-winning works of the Viet Nam Publishing Association such as: Pham Phu Thu – the full volume, John looking for Hung, New Fairy Books… In this program, participantswere actively engaged and had a lucky draw to receive 02 return tickets Hanoi - Istanbul sponsored by Turkish Airlines.

The 11^thViet Nam Book Award - 2015 ceremony hosted by Viet Nam Publishing Association, in order to honor the value of books and encourage authors, publishers as well as reading culture in the community, with the largest number of the publishers participating until now and hundreds of books registering for the competition. Overall, all winning works are the ones that carry high value regarding theory, art, science and practice.

Book reading contest: In addition to helping the children understand the meaning of book reading which is not just about reading plain letters but also seeing through the author's ideas and receiving civilization’s knowledge of mankind, pupils are also instructed about how to foster their reading skills and exposing their best feelings about the work.

Painting through book contest:The paintings are shown through imagination and painting ability of children about the characters in fairy tales, sceneries of hometown, country with the aim to encourage them to take part in art activities in schools and have a positive impact on the process of aesthetic education for pupils.

Product creativity contest:In order to create a playground and encourage imagination developing capability and practical application to create environment-friendly handcrafted products, through this activity, children could themselves make practical and meaningful products with different materials such as: Pen boxes, bookmarks, photo frames,..

Book Storytelling contest (in Vietnamese, English): With careful preparation of costumes, character creation and elaborately staged background, the teams has replayed those stories with humanity meaning in a vivid and fascinating way. Through narrative, witty and funny voice of the pupils, the audience really enjoyed an exciting but no less deeply emotional contest.
Authors, literary works Identity contest:With detailed hints about the character, the author and the work, all teams were quick-minded enough to correctly identify and answer the competition questions regarding the history, landmarks, literature, Viet Nam and the world.
Game shows - Puzzles: This is pretty fun and appealing contest which helped players have moments of relaxation with intellectual puzzles; funny, interesting answers, surprises and healthy movement games.

Besides, in the framework of the Festival, the NLV has received and shared sponsored books from institutions, organizations and individuals ... granting to some remote libraries, borders and island in the country. This activity is very meaningful, imbued with humanity, raising the contribution regarding both physical and mental support to the local libraries and help promote reading culture across the country.

It is stated that after 10 years of successful implementation, Book Festival Day at the NLV has become a model activity, which is widely spread to libraries across the country, positively contributing and encouraging reading habit in the social community. Through the Festival’s activities, the Organization Committee hopes that they will help the public and especially young readers be aware of the necessity of books and reading, further contribute to the reading movement towards a learning society, the beauty of the community’s spiritual life.
