On the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the historic Victory of Dien Bien Phu (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), on May 6, 2024, The National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) organized the Documentary exhibition "Victory of Dien Bien Phu – The strength of Viet Nam and the Stature of the Times".
Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy - Member of the Party Personnel Committee, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST); Mr. Nguyen Tuan Linh - Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the MoCST; Mr. Quan Van Hai - Chairman of the Trade Union of the MoCST; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao - Deputy Director of the Authority of Publication, Printing and Distribution, Ministry of Information and Communications; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien - Deputy Director of the Library Department, MoCST; Mr. Duong Trung Quoc - General Secretary of the Viet Nam Historical Science Association; Mr. Nguyen Huu Gioi - President of Vietnamese Library Association, together with representatives of leaders of departments, offices and units under the MoCST, departments and agencies under the Central government and Ha Noi, representatives of libraries, library-information centers, the public, and readers.
More than 800 typical materials including books, newspapers, and magazines arranged in four contents, along with 70 photos, maps, and artifacts numbered and arranged in chronological order ofevent were displayed at the exhibition.
Including directives, flexible policies and the Party’s guidelines of the resistance and national construction; the view, military ideology, and revolutionary leadership art of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh; extensive documents about the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam in the early days of independence; the aggression of French in Saigon, opening the second Indochina war. In the exhibition space, materials about unique feature of Vietnamese military art, important and decisive moments of the resistance war against the French colonialists, creating the premise and strength for the Dien Bien Phu campaign were also introduced to the public.
Introducing materials about the French and America plots to occupy and build the Dien Bien Phu stronghold; the Party’s guidelines and wise directions in the strategy of breaking the Nava plan; the brave fighting spirit of our army and people under the direct command of General Vo Nguyen Giap at the Dien Bien Phu battlefield. Besides, there are also materials written about the difficulties in transportation and providing logistics for the Campaign, and the unprecedented mobilization of people to support the front lines in the resistance war against the French.
Gathering written materials about the meaning and importance of the Dien Bien Phu Victory for Viet Nam, Indochina countries and the world; the spirit of patriotism, willingness to sacrifice for independence and freedom for the nation of heroic martyrs, young volunteers, militiamen… during the Campaign. Affirming that the Dien Bien Phu Victory is the most brilliant victory of entire Party, entire army and entire people, the crystallization of many factors, of which, the most important is the wise leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, of the revolutionary spirit, bravery and intelligence of Viet Nam, and at the same time the victory of the strong and faithful fighting solidarity between the armies and people of the three Indochina countries and the help and support from fraternal countries and international friends.
