In the context of intensive digital transformation across all sectors, library activities also face the need for innovation in management thinking, service methods, and communication approaches as libraries are no longer just places for storing and providing materials, but are gradually becoming creative spaces connecting communities and spreading knowledge through digital platforms.
In accordance with Decision No. 476/QD-BVHTTDL of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) organized a training course on “Library Communication in the Digital age” to enhance the communication competencies of library professionals across the country.
The first training course was held in two days, June 25-26, 2026, at the NLV in Ha Noi, with nearly 200 participants from public, academic, specialized, and armed forces libraries in the northern region. The second training course took place in two days, July 2-3, 2026, in Dak Lak, with nearly 150 participants from libraries in the central, central highlands, andsouthern regions.
The training course not only updated participants’ knowledge but also created a forum for exchanging experiences, sharing effective communication models, and networking among library professionals.
In the opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dung - NLV Director, emphasized that digital transformation in libraries is not just about applying technology to resource management or digitization, but also about a change in mindset towards serving users. In the digital environment, libraries need to know how to build their images, tell stories about the value of knowledge, enhance interaction with the community, and confirm their position on media platforms. Modern libraries need to become digital brands – the places where users can access knowledge anytime, anywhere, while being inspired to learn, create, and share.

The training course stood out for its practical, learner-centric approach. The curriculum is designed for hands-on learning, integrating theorical knowledge with direct guidance and practical exercises. Participants are equipped with a variety of practical content, including: developing a mindset for library communication and branding in the digital environment; methods for planning and implementing communication campaigns tailored to specific library user segments; skills for producing visual content, infographics, and short-form videos across digital platforms and communication channels; organizing experiential and interactive activities to strengthen the bond between the library and the community, especially young people; leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support content creation, optimize communication workflows, and enhance user outreach efficiency...

MLIS. Do Cong Lung - Head of Reference Division (NLV), Lecturer of the Training course
Through practical exercises, participants directly create communication products for their respective organizations, ensuring immediate applicability upon course completion. In addition to skill enhancement, the training course also aims to build a community of library communications practitioners – a hub where experiences are shared, initiatives are disseminated, and best practices are replicated across the entire network. The practical experiences, success stories, and creative ideas discussed during the course unlock new perspectives on enhancing library branding, promoting reading culture, and engaging users in the digital environment. This serves as a concrete step toward achieving the objective of building a modern, user-centric library system that effectively applies digital technology and artificial intelligence in both professional activities and communication.
