With support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam, on the 21st April 2013, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) has co-operated with the Ministries, Government agencies, Departments, Provinces, Cities, Embassies, NGOs in the countries annually celebrate the Book Reading Festival Day. Over 8 years of development, Reading Festival Day at the National Library of Viet Nam has become an operational model, to be replicated in the libraries across the country, contributing to promote reading in the community and attract majority of people attended. With a desire to continue promoting the best results, confirming the great value of books; honoring the authors, written works, publishers, printing and distribution; role of books, libraries and readers in the society; for a learning society; toward selecting the National Book Reading Festival Day. The Book Reading Festival Day 2013 themed “For a learning society” with many activities have been renovated in content, rich in format to further affirm the great value of reading.

In the framework of the Book Reading Festival Day, besides the activities: Exchange among scholars, authors, literary critics, works with readers. Presentations on readers’ feelings about a specific book; Book story telling in English, Drawing pictures contest, Game show etc. NLV has also introduced the exhibition “Interesting, Beautiful and Prize book” with nearly 1,000 outstanding document items, typically in the documentary resource of the nation and the world are being stored at the NLV. The resource is rich in content, various form, genre and language in order to enable public have deepen understanding about the cultural heritage of Viet Nam and the world over times.
Within the framework of the Festival, the National Library of Viet Nam has become the reliable address to receive, share books and equipments from the organizations to support the remote libraries. This is a very active and sense of humanity which contribute to promote reading in all parts of the country.
Through the practical activities, the festival has broadcast a message to the public: be positive reading, reading is considered as the most important way to the quintessence of humanity, the shortest part, the most reliable to enable people achieved success in life, honoring the value to more and more love the life, contributing to reinforce understanding, exchange and co-operated between Viet Nam and the international community.
