On the occasion of Europe Day (May 9) and the International Biennial Photo Hanoi'23, on the afternoon of May 13, 2023, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) and the Wallonie-Bruxelles Delegations in Viet Nam organized the opening ceremony of the Photo Exhibition “Orange Wounds”. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dung, Acting Director of the NLV and Mr. Nicolas Dervaux, Representative of the Governments of the French-speaking Belgian community and the Wallonia Region in Viet Nam co-chaired the ceremony.
Attending the event, on the side of the invited guests, there were Mr. Tran Nhat Hoang – Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Department; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien – Deputy Director of the Library Department, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST); Mr. Nguyen Huu Gioi, President of Vietnamese Library Association.
On the side of international guests, there were Mr. Eligio Salas III – Ambassador of Panama to Viet Nam; Mr. Edgar Doerig – Representative of the International Organization of Francophonie for the Asia Pacific region; Mr. Thierry Vergon – Director of the French Institute in Ha Noi, Coordinator of the International Biennial Photo Hanoi'23 and Ms. Elodie Ledure – Author of the photographic works.
Representatives of leaders of agencies, units and professional associations under the MoCST, representatives of leaders of libraries in Ha Noi, the public and library users also attended the event.
24 photos through an artistic journey called Orange Wounds displayed at the exhibition brought to the public and readers many different emotions. Elodie Ledure’s photographs, taken from above, have good shaping ability as well as rich in documentation, are purely physical images exposed before the eyes, evoking fragility, however, it is not an imposition or a declaration, it’s all a suggestion.
Elodie Ledure is a female photographer born in 1985 in Liège, Belgium. Elodie Ledure’s gaze is an inventive projection that lingers on nearby places and objects to better divide them, understand them more thoroughly, and go beyond them. With a creative juggling in shaping, Elodie’s images are made up of small vibrations, timeless recognition, longings for a large space, inviting viewers to complicated perceptual and emotional experiences…
At the exhibition, the author shared: “In order to be able to take these photos, she has spent a lot of energy and exhausted her body. The photos are a visualization of her life through a visual dialogue from when she was a child to an adult woman. Woman and child converse in the mirror. The mirror magnifies and distorts, like a memory can be kept in a dim way…”
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dung – Acting Director of the NLV sincerely thanked the Wallonie-Bruxelles Delegation in Viet Nam for giving the Vietnamese public the opportunity to admire the works of profound humanity, presenting an authentic, natural and in-depth introduction of the image of women.
The exhibition opens from May 10 to 16, 2023 at the National Library of Viet Nam, 31 Trang Thi, Hoan Kiem, Ha Noi
