On 22nd June 2011, the meeting on preliminary assessment of Cataloguing in Publication (CIP) program was held at the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) in the cooperation between the Publishing Directorate, Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) and NLV. The meeting aimed to sum up partially activities of CIP program implemented in Vietnam since December 2009, gained practical experience and contribution on program procession as preparation for next step.

Attended the meeting there were Mr. Nguyen Kiem – Director of Publishing Directorate, MIC; Publishing Management Department, Publishing Directorate; Mrs. Phan Thi Kim Dzung and members of the NLV’s Directorial Board; leaders and representatives from Social Sciences Publishing House, National Political Publishing House, The gioi Publishing House, Vietnam Encyclopedia Publishing House, Hue University Publishing House, Bach Khoa Publishing House, Vietnam Book Cultural Joint Stock Company (Vina Book JSC), Thaihabooks Jsc, Nha Nam Publishing and Communications Jsc etc., and members of CIP implementation team at the NLV.
Overview of the CIP preliminary assessment meeting
At the meeting, leader of Publishing Directorate, representatives from Publishing Houses highly appreciated effort of leader and staff at NLV to implement CIP program nationwide in the previous period, concurrently confirmed the efficiency program in both Publishing and Library sector, helping Vietnam to achieve international book standards, enable Vietnamese books will be joined in overseas book markets; libraries overcome the application of professional standards, libraries keep unity in application of professional standards, increasing the effectiveness of the bibliography control etc.,

Cataloguing in publication (CIP ) is the preparation for cataloging data for publication before they are published. NLV is the focal institution cooperates with Publishing Directorate, MIC and 13 selected Publishing Houses (according to original plan) implemented CIP since December 2009, has now expanded to 50 Publishers and 15 Book Companies nationwide.
