On April 10, the General Assembly of the Francophone Digital Network met in Bern, capital of Switzerland. Under the chairmanship of Mr. Guy Berthiaume, Chairman and CEO of National Library and Archives of Quebec, Secretary General of Digital Francophone Network, representatives of 14 French-speaking countries highlighted the results achieved during the past year and discussed the action plan for this year.
At the meeting, Sandra Coulibaly Leroy - representative of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) re-affirmed the support of OIF for the protection and promotion of tangible and intangible heritage of the Francophone community. Digitalizing and sharing of resources contribute to the promotion of cultural exchanges, enhance mutual understanding and build a rich community identity.
Ms. Phan Thi Kim Dung, Director of the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) participated in this meeting. In her speech, she emphasized digitization projects at the National Library of Viet Nam. Since 2006, the NLV has digitalized more than 5 million pages of documents, including doctoral dissertations, booksin Sino-Nom (old Vietnamese language), Indochinese books, English books about Viet Nam, newspapers and magazines, microfilms and audiovisual documents. Annually, the NLV organizes training workshops on digitalization, with the participation of German and American experts. With the support of government and other projects, NLV is currently equipped with 5 scanners for documents from size A4 to A0. The NLV also shared on the portal of digital Francophone Network with 47 titles. The achievements of the NLV in the field of digitization are appreciated by the participants at the meeting of the General Assembly.
In 2013, the National Library of Viet Nam organized the meeting of the Network. In 2015, the meeting will take place in Dakar, capital of Senegal.
