On 22nd September 2011, Executive Board of the National Library of Vietnam (NLV)’s Trade union held final competition “Proposal ideas to attract readers to the National Library of Vietnam”
On the purpose of enable officials and employees of NLV to express their creative ideas and promote working experience on building and development the library and attract more readers to NLV, from the beginning of July 2011, NLV’s Trade union has proposed and implemented the idea of competition “Proposal ideas to attract readers to the National Library of Vienam”
Within a month launching the competition, the Organizing Board has received 12 entries written by 12 divisions/departments of the NLV and selected 7 among 12 entries for the presentation section.
Ideas expressed by presenters
In the presentation section, the presenters give brief introduction by powerpoint presentation in 15 minutes. After each presentation, the jury ask question focused on ideas proposed. The competition’s crtiteria is the idea must be very practical, feasible, and have made specific solutions.
Besides that, officials and employees have the opportunity to display their presentation’s ability, communication and behaviour skills; improve their knowledge, have deepen understanding of library profession ect. which have been seen the vital skills and knowledge of people working in library sector.
The jury of the Competition
The competition has been very vibrant and effervescent caused by lively presentations, new, abundant and attractive ideas and clever response from presenters. Mr. Nguyen Thuc, Director, Head of the Trade Union of the MOCST stated that “...this is a meaningful competition, impressed with the attractive content, quite timely. The competition and ideas in accordance with the competition criteria; particularly lead to constructing the cultural, civilised and modern library environment. Many presentations were much impressed the jury and audience etc.”
Although there is no champion, the competition’s results has deeply encouraged officials and employees. The competition has also been a good opportunity for officials and staff of the National Library of Vietnam to exchange, sharing and learning from each other’s experience.

At end of competition, the Organizing Board has awarded second prize to the Vietnamese Magazine Division, 2 third prize awarded to Cataloguing Division and Preservation Division; 04 Incentive prize awarded to Research and Professional Guidance Division, International Relations, Reference Division and Acquisition and International Book Exchange Division.
