Documentary Exhibition "Dien Bien Phu in the air - The epic of immortality"

In commemoration of the 50^th anniversary of the Victory “Ha Noi – Dien Bien Phu in the air” (12/1972 – 12/2022) – the epochal victory of our army and people in the strategic air raid of the U.S. imperialists, with the approval of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST), on the morning of December 15, 2022, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) held the opening ceremony of the Documentary Exhibition: Dien Bien Phu in the air - The epic of immortality.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Phan Viet Luong – Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for Culture and Education, Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy – Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Bui Hoai Son – Standing member of the National Assembly Committee for Culture and Education; Mr. Bui The Duc - Vice Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and the Arts; Mr. Nguyen Tuan Linh - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the MoCST; Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga - Executive Board member of the Party Committee of the MoCST, Secretary of the Party Committee, Director of the National Library of Viet Nam; and representatives of leaders of departments, offices and units under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Public Security; representatives of the Library of Congress, the Military Library, representatives of different library systems: the public library, special library, academic library, armed forces library, the public and NLV’s readers, media, newspapers and television agencies.

The Victory “Ha Noi – Dien Bien Phu in the air” is a brillant landmark, a brilliant symbol of the power of revolutionary heroism, of Vietnamese wisdom and braveryin the Ho Chi Minhera; of the Viet Nam’s people’s war strength against the destructive war the the American Empire. During 12 days and nights of combat, from December 18-29, 1972, Ha Noi’s army and people have created a miracle of shooting down 81 American aircrafts, including 34 “strategic flying super fortresses” – B52. The victory of “Dien Bien Phu in the air” proved the invincible strength of the Viet Nam’s people’s war under the wise leadership of the Party Central Committee. The victory of “Dien Bien Phu in the air” is forever the pride of the army and people of Ha Noi, the capital of a thousand years of civilization.

The exhibition introduced 500 typical documents, displayed under 4 contents: (1) History of the Viet Nam People’s Army and the Air Defense – Air Force; (2) Ha Noi – 12 days and nights; (3) Dien Bien Phu in the air - Vietnamese wisdom and bravery; (4) Ha Noi – The capital of heroes, peace and creativity. The materials displayed at the exhibition reflect faithfully and completely the process of establishment and development of the People’s Army and the Air Defense – Air Force, the heroic feats of the Air Defense – Air Force of Viet Nam in the fight to protect the sky, protect the national key objectives, protect the people, protect the sacred seas and islands of the Fartherland; materials about the progress of the 12 day and night combat of the army and people of Ha Noi; ingenious military art of the Viet Nam People’s Army, especially the art of Air Defense – Air Force combat in repelling the B52 flying fortress; histotical significance, lessons learned from the Dien Bien Phu in the air Victory – the great epic of the twentieth century; materials about heroic Ha Noi in the resistance war, in production and economic, culture, society, security and defense development, a city for the peace, a city on the journey towards the future…

The exhibition is a cultural event of important political significance, a tribute to and honoring the great contributions and brave sacrifices of heroes and martyrs in the armed forces and the people in the cause of national liberation struggle. The exhibition also affirms the corect line of the Party in choosing the people’s war, confirms the great significance and historical value of the Ha Noi - Dien Bien Phu in the air Victory in 1972, thereby contributing to the propagation and education of patriotic traditions and national pride; encouraging the entire Party, people and army to continue the will of resilience, creativity, spirit to overcome all difficulties, jointly contribute to realize the aspiration to develop the country, develop a prosperous and happy capital city.

The exhibition will take place from December 15, 2022 to the end of December 30, 2022.
