Director of The Asia – Pacific Region, International Organization of La Francophonie visits and works with the National Library of Viet Nam

On the morning of June 19, 2020, Mr. Chékou Oussouman, Director of the Asia – Pacific Region, International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) visited and worked with the National Library of Viet Nam. Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga, Director of the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) received the delegation.

At the meeting, NLV Director respectfully welcomed the newly appointed Director of the Asia-Pacific Region of OIF and expressed her belief that Mr. Chékou Oussouman would help promote the cooperation relation between the National Library of Viet Nam and the International Organization of La Francophonie in the coming time. Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga gave an overview of the establishment development, the information resources and projects that the NLV has implemented with international partners.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Chékou Oussouman expressed his strong impression on the history and collections of the NLV, and was honored to become the NLV’s partner in the Francophone Book Space Project (ELFE) expected to be implemented in the coming time. Mr. Chékou Oussouman also pledged to be ready to act as a bridge to expand the cooperation between the NLV and partners of the Francophone community such as embassies and university members of the Francophonie University Association... He intended to incorporate this partnership within the framework of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the International Organization of La Francophonie. For her part, Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga expressed her sincere thanks to the goodwill of Mr. Chékou Oussouman and welcomed all cooperation from partners having common interests.

The two sides spent time discussing about content of the framework agreement of the Francophone Book Space project. This is a project of OIF started in 2012 with the goal of strenghthening the public library network in Francophone countries by sponsoring books to be published locally and translated into French, or works written on topics directly related to that country. The project has been implemented in Ghana, Seychelles, Guinée, Arménie; and Viet Nam is expected to be the 5th country of the project, the NLV is proposed to participate as the main partner with the role of managing and implementing the project in Viet Nam. The two leaders agreed to quickly complete the content of the agreement and carry out the neccessary procedures in accordance with regulations before implementing the project as soon as possible.
