In the morning 10th September 2015, at Thong Nhat Park Hanoi, Ministry of Information and Communications has opened 5th Vietnam International Book Fair – Exhibition 2015 with the theme “Vietnam development and integration”. Mr. Nguyen Bac Son, Member of the Party Center Committee, Minister of Information and Communications, with leaders’ representatives of some departments, Central agencies, publishers, printing agencies, issuing units in the country and overseas for attending the opening ceremony.
This year’s Vietnam International Book Fair – Exhibition has the participation of more than 100 publishing, printing, issuing agencies in the country and outside with nearly 200 stands, including many major publishers in the world such as: Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Hachette Book Group USA… These are recurring events hosted by Ministry of Information and Communications every 2 years in order to facilitate learning in Vietnam, exchanging management experience, organizing activities on international publications; introducing publications of Vietnamese publishers and international publishing agencies to readers in the country and overseas.
The 5th Vietnam International Book Fair – Exhibition 2015 took place in 3 areas: exhibition, fair, event planning. The exhibition area opened by the National Library of Vietnam displayed and introduced more than 3,000 valuable documents, artifacts such as antique books, engravings, old books, books on leaves of ethnic minorities, works rewarded Ho Chi Minh Award…to recreate the formation and development process of book associated with the history of building and defending the country, achievements of Vietnamese people gained after 30 years of innovation and development. Besides, a series of events and activities plentifully themed as following: introduction, promotion of publications, copyright exchange transactions; introduction of advanced publishing technology transfers in the digital age; exchange of management experience in the field of publishing…also being held in large scale at Vietnam International Book Fair – Exhibition this year. Especially, all book stalls offered discounts from 15 – 50% depending on the types of books.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. Truong Minh Tuan affirmed the important role of publishing activity that is not only the boost for spiritual life, intellectual improvement, contribution for healthy culture life of Vietnamese people, but also an international communication event, brings about the opportunity to promote copyright trade, expand international cooperation in publishing activities. In recent times, publishing activities show strong transition to catch up the general trend of the world. With the intention to broaden external relations, Vietnam has signed a memorandum of cooperation with publishing organizations of Russia, China, Laos, Cuba who are members of ASEAN Publishing Association, Organization of International Standard Book Number…
Deputy Minister of Information and Communication also emphasized that in the near future, the industries of Publishing, Printing, and Issuing are required to further encourage campaigns to introduce, promote Vietnam publications to other countries in order to make these industries become a bridge connecting overseas Vietnamese community with their homeland. Besides, another important task of publishing industry is to actively exploring and bringing valuable foreign publications to Vietnam in order to meet Vietnam’s readers’ needs to learn, research, access knowledge and different cultures in the world.
The 5th Vietnam International Book Fair – Exhibition will take place from 10th September 2015 to 14th September 2015 at Thong Nhat park, Hanoi.
