On the morning of July 15, 2024, the National Library of Viet Nam (NVL) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) of Viet Nam, in collaboration with the National Hangeul Museum of Korea under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea, and the Korean Cultural Center in Viet Nam, organized a series of diverse events to convey Korean cultural values ​​in Ha Noi, Viet Nam.

Overview of the Exhibition Opening Ceremony

Attending the Exhibition, on the Vietnamese side, there were Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy - Member of the Party Executive Committee, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dung - Director of the National Library of Viet Nam and representatives of the leaders of Departments, Bureaus, and units under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and a number of libraries in Ha Noi; on the Korean side, there were Mr. Choi Young-sam - Korean Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Viet Nam; Mr. Kim Il-hwan - Director of the National Hangeul Museum of Korea; Mr. Choi Seung-jin - Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Viet Nam and representatives of the leaders of Associations, Agencies, Offices, and Korean Research Institutes in Viet Nam.

Also attending the event were a number of teachers and heads of the Korean language departments at universities, secondary schools, high schools, lecturers of King Sejong Institutes in the Northern region, a large number of the public, readers and media agencies, newspapers and television stations.

The Opening Ceremony opened impressively with an artwork drawn by artist Byeol Ha - President of the Korean Calligraphy Design Association. The elaborate and beautiful calligraphy painting with the image of Lotus and Mugung flowers represents the wonderful diplomatic relationship between Viet Nam and Korea.

The diverse series of events to convey Korean cultural values ​​in Hanoi, Viet Nam includes:

The exhibition introduces to the public a total of 11 works of art in various forms from graphics, household items, handicrafts, fashion products and videos depicting the transformation journey of Hangeul, including videos introducing the principles and philosophy of Hangeul creation, the work “Hangeul” by author Lee Hwayoung - one of the representative works reaffirming that modern Hangeul is the door to a new world; along with the work “Jitae Chilgi” - a lacquer painting on traditional paper containing the unique features of Hangeul characters. Through the exhibition, readers and the public will experience Hangeul with many different senses and feel its limitless potential.

After the exhibition in Viet Nam ends, the event will continue to take place at the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines starting from September.

On the same day, the National Library of Viet Nam signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation with the National Hangeul Museum.

The main content of the agreement is (1) to promote cooperation programs and mutual exchange of materials and academic publications, (2) to coordinate the organization of events, conferences, seminars, and exhibitions to promote the cultures of the two sides (especially written culture and documentary heritage…), (3) to exchange expertise and develop professional skills (especially in the field of preservation), (4) to exchange experts to promote cooperation activities and develop professional capacity of the two sides and promote cooperation projects.

Since July 13, the National Hangeul Museum has been implementing the Hangeul writing art experience program with the theme: “The Beauty of Hangeul Calligraphy” for Korean language learners in Viet Nam. Through the program, participants will experience creating their own Hangeul writing works by applying modern and sophisticated calligraphy techniques that are summarized in the process of transforming Hangeul strokes, thereby feeling the beauty of Hangeul like a vivid picture.

Starting with the operation of the calligraphy experience program in Viet Nam this time, the National Hangeul Museum plans to expand the "Hangeul Experience Everywhere" overseas, thereby popularizing Hangeul worldwide in the future.

The event is an opportunity for Viet Nam and Korea to build and further strengthen the relationship of deep understanding and respect for each other's culture, while providing a platform for scholars, researchers and culture enthusiasts to engage in dialogue and exchange ideas.
