    Imprint of Book and Reading Culture Day 2024

    In the celebration of the Viet Nam Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21) and World Book and Copyright Day (April 23), The National Library of Vietnam (NLV), in collaboration with various ministries, branches, international organizations, libraries, schools, publishers, bookstores, and businesses, organized the Book and Reading Culture Day 2024 on April 20, 2024 under the theme: The World I Read. The Book and Reading Culture Day 2024 is a significant event reaffirming books' position and indispensable role in social life. It aims to encourage and develop the reading movement in the community, not only limited to traditional printed materials but also expanded to audio, visual, and digital platforms. At the same time, it honors those who write, make, preserve, and promote books; connects domestic and foreign readers, and creates positive effects in building a learning society, contributing to the promotion of Vietnamese culture and people towards the goal of country's sustainable development. Activities on the Book and Reading Culture Day 2024 are designed in many rich and diverse forms with attractive content, drawing the attention and participation of a large number of readers and the public.

    On the afternoon of March 16, 2024, a discussion revolving around the works The Ants trilogy and Pandora’s Box named “Meeting writer Bernard Werber” took place at the National Library of Viet Nam. The event was jointly organized by the National Library of Viet Nam, the French Institute in Ha Noi and Nha Nam Culture and Communication Joint Stock Company. Attending the discussion, from the delegate side, were Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dung – Director of the National Library of Viet Nam and Ms. Sophie Maysonnave – Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy, Director of the French Institute. The event also welcomed the large participation of more than 200 library readers and the public.

    Material Preservation & Restoration Training Workshop at the National Library of Viet Nam

    The Training Workshop was held from October 23-25, 2023 with the participation of more than 100 trainees. At the training workshop, trainers will disseminate knowledge about: Preserving and safely using antique books and special collections; Preserving traditional materials at the National Library of Viet Nam; General overview about Digital Preservation Process and Tools; Practices of Long-term Conservation, and Strategic Planning for Digital Resources at the National Library of China; General overview about restoring ancient books… At the end of the training course, trainees will master the principles, knowledge and methodologies of preserving and restoring materials; the work of protecting and promoting value of endangered ancient materials to prolong the materials’ life, contributing to preserve the cultural heritage, promote the quintessence of national culture and transferred to future generations to continue inheriting and using.
