To join in the general atmosphere of the country and the Culture, Sports and Tourism profession towards political, cultural, national holidays and special occasion celebrating 1000^th years of Thang Long – Hanoi, the National Library of Vietnam has focused on main professional tasks which aims to build a friendly, modern, civilized, dynamic – developing, promoting integration with other libraries countries in the region and the world; meet readers’ need contribute to promote social-economy development and education of the country. The National Library of Vietnam actively participates and implements cultural and professional activities and are encouraged and praised by domestic and foreign friends, leaders of the Party and State.

Here are some typical activities of the National Library of Vietnam in 2010:

1. Successfully organized series of cultural activities celebrating 1000 years of Thang Long – Ha Noi such as exhibition on “Thang Long – Ha Noi,  thousand years of civilization” in France and Laos (it marked the first time the National Library of Vietnam organizing event abroad) and Hanoi, cooperated with Hanoi Publisher to launch the “Thang Long – Hanoi bookcase” – a main work  to celebrate 1000 years of Thang Long – Ha Noi, concurrently launched the “Digital collection of Thang Long – Ha Noi”
2. Compiled and released the book “Thăng Long – Hà Nội, a selected bibliography” in three languages (Vietnamese, English and French) which equipped readers at home and abroad an overview of Thăng Long – Hà Nội over thousand years.
3. The NLV played a role as member of Organizing Board when participated in international book fair 2010 in Hanoi. At the book fair, there was a booth of the National Library of Vietnam displayed materials entitled “Thăng Long – Hà Nội, a thousand years of civilization”. Many precious materials of Thang Long – Hanoi were chosen and displayed at the center of the exhibition.
4. Books exhibition to commemorate the 120^th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh was held at the National Library of Vietnam.
5. Successfully organized “Books reading festival and the world copyright day” entitled “Celebrating 35 years of the South’s liberation and  1000 years of Thang Long – Hà Nội ” has received active response from agencies, domestic and foreign departments.
6. Cataloguing in publications (CIP) has step up and remarked by meetings and signing Memorandum between the NLV and Publishers in the North (April 2010), Central and the South (September 2010).
7. The continuation training courses “Advanced training on the 14^th Abridged DDC and materials processing for libraries in Vietnam” were held in both the North and South of Vietnam.
8. The DDC22/23 has been implemented, RDA (Resources Description and Access) are being conducted research.
9. Successfully organized training course on preservation "New challenges in conservation and restoration" which presented by a Germany expert.
10. A series of cultural events were held at the National Library of Vietnam such as Venezuela Culture Week in Vietnam, Panama Culture Week in Vietnam, Vietnam-China Paintings and Calligraphy exchange Exhibition, Environmental Exhibition of the Asia Foundation, International non-violence day and the 141th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, Book Donation Ceremony of Pakistan Embassy to Vietnamese libraries, Cuba Embassy donated books on José Marti's life and career to the National Library of Vietnam, Venezuela Embassy introduced the work "Ho Chi Minh’s military ideology" in Spanish ... has confirmed the role of bridging cultural diplomacy of the National Library of Vietnam.
11. Launched Reading Room, for Researchers and Businesspeople, Multilingual Reading Room, creating the most convenient reading environment for readers.
