On November 28, 2017, at the Ha Noi Opera House, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) solemnly celebrated its 100th Foundation Day Anniversary and received the First Class Labor Order - a noble award granted to the NLV by President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
Attending the ceremony were comrade Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam; comrade Pham Quang Nghi – former Politburo member, former Ha Noi city Party Secretary; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Bui The Duc – Deputy Director of the Central Propaganda and Training Commission; Mr. Do Manh Hung – Vice Chairman of the National Assemble Office; representatives of the central and Ha Noi agencies, boards, ministries, branches, Party Committee, Trade Union, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, agencies under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Education and Training; ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of embassies and international organizations in Ha Noi, friendship organizations, professional associations, the library-information community in Viet Nam and Southeast Asian nations; publishing, printing and distribution agencies, enterprises, central and Ha Noi media; individuals having contributions to the NLV; representatives of readers throughout the country, generations of leaders and employees of the NLV.
Formerly known as the Indochinese Central Library, the National Library of Viet Nam was established on November 29, 1917. During a century of construction and development, overcoming many difficulties and challenges, the NLV has continuously grown and made significant contributions to preservation of the nation’s cultural heritages, improving people’s intellectual level, training human resources, fostering talented people, expanding international cooperation, effectively serving the construction and development of the country.
During the past 100 years of construction and development, in order to gain such outstanding achievements as today, the NLV has always received attention, guidance and favorable conditions of the leaders of the Party and the Government, directly of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The achievements of the NLV, with active contributions of the generations of leaders, officers and workers of the library throughout different stages, have demonstrated the right orientation of the NLV, which are improving the quality of activities, meeting the needs of information, learning, culture and entertainment of the community, serving as a reliable address and ideal destination for studying, researching and enjoying the culture of a great mass of readers throughout the country.
Recognizing the efforts and outstanding achievements and important contributions of the NLV, the Party and the Government have granted many noble awards to the NLV, such as the first class, second class and third class Labor Order, the third class Independence Order (2002), the second class Independence Order (2007) and the first class Independence Order (2012); many emulation flags of the Government and Certificates of Merit of the Prime Minister and many other noble titles. To once again acknowledge and affirm the achievements of the NLV during the past period, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation day, the NLV was honor to be awarded the First Class Labor Order by the Party and the Government, and many noble awards for its individuals.
In addition to the noble awards of the Party and the Government, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also decided to award the Certificate of Merit and the Medal For the cause of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the individuals who have outstanding achievements in the process of building and developing the library.
On behalf of the NLV, comrade Kieu Thuy Nga – Party Secretary and Director of the NLV expressed her sincere thanks to the guidance and important, specific orientations about tasks of the NLV in the coming time. The Minister’s praises are a great source of encouragement and support for the generations of the NLV officials and workers to firmly march on the way ahead. At the same time, she also identified some important tasks the library should continue to implement in the coming time, including: To strengthen the collection, preservation and promotion of the value of the national knowledge treasure, of which special attention should be paid to the development of current publications, collection of past publications and promotion of the development of digital information resources should also be taken interested in; To gradually renovate all technical activities towards professional, active and effective manner; To promote the application of information technology, expand the ability to integrate and share data, strive for creating a national digital collection, gradually contributing to the development of the digital content industry of Viet Nam and for Vietnamese people; To actively expand the international cooperation on library field, especially in the materials exchange, human resources training, acquisition of new technology and experiences to organization and management of modern libraries; To further enhance the training and fostering of the human resources with high quality of professional, technical level, proactive at work and having professional quality meeting the requirements of modern libraries. Based on the important tasks should be done, the NLV will continue to inherit traditions, promote achievements, always attach special importance to overcoming some limitations on working areas; unceasingly reinforce the strength of solidarity, unity, make a great effort to emulation, creativeness, renovation in all activities to reach higher achievements, contributing more worthily to the development of the sector and the country.
