Internet Festivals in Thái Nguyên, Nghệ An and Trà Vinh provinces

Activities implemented within framework of the Pilot Project: “Improvement of computer usage and public Internet access ability in Vietnam” funded by the Bill&Melinda Gates Foundation (U.S.A) from the 24th to 29th May 2011. The PMU of the pilot project – Vietnam Public Utility Telecommunication Service Fund (VTF) coordinated with the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) and three provincial libraries in Thái Nguyên, Nghệ An and Trà Vinh successfully held the Internet Festivals (IF) in three districts and communes in the three mentioned provinces.

On the purpose to introduce and promote numerous classes of people in 3 provinces of the pilot project on using computers and Internet access services provided by the communal cultural post offices at the project sites which are equiped with computers. IF held at Tân Cương commune, Thái Nguyên province (24th May 2011), Cầu Kè district, Trà Vinh province (26th May 2011) and Thanh Lĩnh commune, Thanh Chương district, Nghệ An province (29th May 2011) as the meaningful social activities attracted attention from people, especially, youth and pupils living in communes and districts where the IF were held. According to the statistics,  approximately 1,000 people attended the IF in the three provinces.

Attended and encouraged the IF, there were leaders representing for the Information and Communication Department; Culture, Sports and Tourism Department; Provincial Post Offices, District Cultural Post Offices, District Office for Culture and Information, local leaders, leaders of NLV and provincial libraries, and Management Board of Pilot project - VTF.

Joining in the IF, people have chance to to be introduced basic knowledge of computer and internet access in order to expoit information for production development, health care, dicovering lines and policies of the State and Party; education, scientific researches, entertainment, improve the understanding of all aspects of outreach to enrich their lives. Besides, local people also take part in the quiz game knowledge of technology, place-name, ethnicity, computer skills test with prize such as composing text using Microsoft Word, create email account, search for information quickly on the internet etc.

This is a continuous series of activities on the Internet Fesivals successfully held in 14 districts and 16 communes of Thái Nguyên, Nghệ An, Trà Vinh provinces which organized by cooperation among NLV, the Asia Foundation and Thái Nguyên, Nghệ An, Trà Vinh provincial libraries from December 2009 to March 2010. Although Internet Festivals held each of the provinces, the three IF in 2011 have warmed up the message of the project “Internet enriches lives
