On May 16, 2024, in Taichung City (Taiwan), the National Library of Public Information (NLPI) hosted the 2024 Asia-Pacific Public Library International Forum.
The Forum drew the attention and participation of representatives from universities and public libraries in Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Viet Nam. The forum focused on two main topics: “The application of smart technology in library services” and “Experiences library service characteristics in various countries”.
At the forum, the speakers focused on discussing and sharing about common issues as well as future trends of public libraries such as: “The birth of LikeSNU: How histories become data", "The impact of COVID-19 on libraries and the digital transformation of public libraries", "Smart technology revolutionizing library services", "An all-around view of public library services", "Transforming library operations with robotics", "Curation of knowledge information resources", "Technology boosting reading: the new era of smart library services", “Library services using the cutting-edge technology", "Virtual librarian using ChatGPT", etc. At the same time, speakers also shared diverse content such as: "Fresh perspectives in library: fostering knowledge innovation and inspiring creative imagination", "Utilizing cross-field cooperation to create an innovative reading service in public library", “Reading as a catalyst to boot city development toward infinity" or “Towards sustaining lifelong learning”, etc.
The forum sessions covered practical case studies on the application of smart technology in library services, reading promotion, and characteristics of library services, etc. were highly engaging and receiving significant feedback from both live attendees and those following via live streaming.
Attending the forum, in addition to the presentation themed "Innovating service methods at the National Library of Viet Nam", during the discussion session, the NLV’s representative shared with international colleagues about the challenges that Vietnamese libraries in general and the NLV in particular are facing with, as well as highlighted the efforts of the NLV in promoting the development of reading culture, contributing to building a sustainable learning society.
