On December 26, 2016, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) held a conference to summarize its activities in the year 2016 and initiate new tasks for the year 2017. The conference has received deep discussion and evaluation of the results achieved as well as limitations in 2016 and set out the direction and tasks for the year 2017.
Implementing the defined tasks and work plan, following close on the NLV’s emulation content of “Solidarity, creativity, innovation and development”, under the direction of the leaders of the governed Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, during the year 2016, the NLV has promoted its tradition to proactively, decisively and actively accomplish the work plan and achieve many important results: Excellently, timely and properly fulfilled the propaganda activities serving regular and unscheduled tasks, such as exhibition/display/introduction of materials, cultural exchange and celebration of typical events of the country; Successfully organized the 2016 Book Festival with many new activities acknowledged by central agencies, readers and the public; Well promoted the activity of collecting, technical processing, maintaining and preserving the library materials; Achieved high efficiency in strengthening the acquisition activity via such channels as donation, exchange, receiving presentation, acquisition of digital material, online databases, contributed significantly to the NLV’s information resources; Improved quality of the readers’ services, opened new services to effectively serve the society demand of learning and entertainment; Implementing the “Smart Library 2.0” with “S.hub Sharing Space” – an innovative library service model which not only offers reading service but also provide a space for exchanging knowledge where readers can use the comfortable, modern space and high-tech equipment to meet, discuss, group work, exchange knowledge and share creative ideas; Successfully and effectively organized many library-information conferences, workshops, especially the Conference to summarize the activity of information technology application in the public library system (2006-2016) has well evaluated the situation and result of efficient application of information technology in public libraries in the coming period; Science research activity was well invested and implemented with many National Standard projects and scientific researches; the activities of local support received good attention. The NLV continued to advocate agencies, enterprises, organizations and individuals for actively supporting books, newspapers for province/city/commune/school libraries in the poor, mountainous areas and in such areas hitted by blood; Timely implemented the 12th National Party Congress’s Resolution to all party members and library staff; continued to promote “Learning and following the ideology, morality and style of President Ho Chi Minh” in the new stage. Such organizations as the Trade Union, the Youth Union, Veterans’ organization branch have attached their organizations’ activities to professional activities to constitute an integrated power, contributing to the NLV more and more sustainable development.
The conference has adopted the direction and action plan of the year 2017 with the following contents: Enhance the ideology education, timely grasp the ideological situation and general activity of the library; Follow close on the emulation content, excellently accomplish professional tasks, achieve and over-fulfil norms by 20-30%; Well complete the task of propagandizing for major politic events and cultural exchange activities of the country; Organize the 2017 Book Festival; Implement on schedule the project of translating, printing and training usage of the cataloguing rule “Resource Description and Access – RDA”; Strengthening development of digital resources and reference information collection; Continue the National Standard project “Information and Documentation – Interlibrary Loan Transactions”; Organize the 3rd Convening of the International Network of Emerging Library Innovators (INELI ); Celebrate the NLV’s 100th anniversary; Join other tasks assigned by the governed Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
On the same day, the NLV’s Party has summarized its 2016 activity. During the last year, the NLV’s Party has timely implemented the 12th National Party Congress’s Resolution to all party members and populate; Continue to promote “Learning and following the ideology, morality and style of President Ho Chi Minh” in the new stage; Well work on the Party growth; Pay regular attention and facilitate activities of the NLV’s organizations, timely propagandize and disseminate the Party’s viewpoints and direction, the State’s policies and law, timely grasp the ideological situation of the NLV’s party members and staff.
