In the morning of April 12, 2017, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Ngọc Thiện  worked with the National Library of Viet Nam. Attending the working session were representatives of departments and offices under the MoCST.

At the working session, Mrs. Kiều Thuý Nga – Director of the National Library of Viet Nam reported the situation and results of performing some tasks in the recent years to the Minister. Accordingly, in the past years, with attention of the MoCST’s leaders and the coordination, support of relevant departments, the NLV has gained important achievements, reflected in the following aspects: construction and development of information resources, giving information and propagandizing for political tasks, promoting images, innovating methods, improving quality of reader services, investing in scientific research, supporting localities, conducting international cooperation activities in the library field... However, during its operation, the NLV has been facing with some obstacles and difficulties that need to be solved timely. In order to assure the operation and development of the NLV in the coming time, to actively support libraries across the country, the NLV has proposed some motions to the Minister.

After listening to several supplementary reports of the MoCST’s departments that relate directly to the NLV’s activities, Minister Nguyễn Ngọc Thiện has given opinions in which he  appreciated and acknowledged efforts of the NLV’s leaders and staff in overcoming difficulties and well fulfilling the assigned tasks. The Minister also suggested that in the coming time, the NLV should prove its potentials and advantages, focus on evaluating and redefining position and role of the NLV in particular and the library sector in general in society in the current context when many types of information supply and audio-visual and multimedia communication equipment develop quickly and is particularly easy to be accessed. At the same time, it is necessary to change the way of thinking and doing, change the way to approach readers, enhance service activities so that libraries can become particularly important venues that can compete with other types of information supply. To that end, the NLV should create a knowledge-based and learning environment to make the activity of reading in libraries become a habit, a regular and  indispensable daily demand of the readers.

Regarding the NLV’s recommendations, the Minister agreed to assign relevant departments to work together to find out solutions.

Receiving the Minister’s opinions, Mrs. Kiều Thuý Nga expressed her sincere thanks to the Minister and affirmed her determination together with the NLV’s leaders and staff to continue promoting tradition, gradually changing the mode of operation in order to improve quality of the reader services, building the NLV become a venue for knowledge sharing and exchange.

At the end of the working session, Minister Nguyễn Ngọc Thiện went on an inspection tour of the NLV’s reading spaces.
