Launching S.hub Sharing Space at the National Library of Viet Nam

With the view to meet the increasing demand of the capital’s readers about a modern space which can inspire the learning and sharing knowledge, on November 24, 2016, the National Library of Viet Nam and Samsung Vina Electronics Company officially launch the S.hub Sharing Space at the National Library of Viet Nam, 31 Trang Thi, Ha Noi.

The ceremony had the presence of Mr. Huynh Vinh Ai – Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST); Mr. Ho Viet Ha, Director of the Planning and Finance Department (MoCST); Mrs. Vu Duong Thuy Nga, Director of the Library Department; Mrs. Kieu Thuy Nga, Director of the National Library of Viet Nam; Mr. Kim Cheol Gi, CEO of Samsung Vina Electronics Company; Mr. Bang Woo Hyun – Deputy Director General of Samsung CE Complex Viet Nam; Mr. Nguyen Van Dao – Deputy Director General of Samsung Vina Electronics Company; representatives, reporters and readers.

S.hubSharing Spaceis seen as a perfect model of combining technological equipment and library’s knowledge resources as well as inspiring and oriented activities that all together create a  space for the youth of Viet Nam, especially the one in Ha Noi, come to study and share knowledge.

The “Smart Library 1.0” project has been implemented during the years 2001-2015, helped to renovate more than 50 high schools and donate 200,000 book titles, 300 computers, tablets, televisions, and DVD players, etc. for 50,000 high school students of the whole country. Succeeding this success, the idea of “Smart Library 2.0” project with S.hub Sharing Space for students and the young has been formed and the first piloted at the Ho Chi Minh City General Sciences Library. After one-year operation, the pilot model has been improved and officially launched at the National Library of Viet Nam.

The S.hubSharing Space consists of three elements. First, modern spaces and high-tech equipment such as projection screens, lookup tables, computers for quick information retrieval demand, tablets and PCs for personal learning demand, interactive smart screens and a specialized loudspeaker system for the multimedia room, etc. Second, an online exchange space using www.s-hub.vn website as the portal of communication between readers and S.hub Sharing Space with such functions as reserving a meeting room/an event area or register for participating in any event to be held at S.hub, etc. Finally, in order to maximally facilitate the  learning and expanding relationship of the young, S.hub will regularly organize thematic activities with a variety of topics and in different forms such as seminars, presentation, etc.

At the Launching Ceremony, Mrs. Kieu Thuy Nga – Director of the National Library of Viet Nam said: “With the aim to become a really truthful and friendly place for preserving the knowledge and inspiring readers at home and abroad, we believe that the S.hub Sharing Space at the National Library of Viet Nam will bring an innovative library service model to better serve the young’s demand for reading, researching, exchanging, studying and sharing ideas. The birth of S.hub is also our desire that together with Samsung we will create a learning and knowledge sharing space which can attract the active participation of the library users and support the personal development of all people in the society”. Besides, Mr. Kim Cheol Gi – CEO of Samsung Vina Electronics Company also said: “We aim to combine high-tech equipment of Samsung with the knowledge resources of the library to optimize the learning and knowledge sharing space at the S.hub. I believe that S.hub will bring fantastic experiences of an open and modern space which can help the young in Ha Noi learn, exchange, connect and initiate new ideas for their creativeness and passion in lives and at works”.
