On 25th November 2016, Congress of the Vietnam Library Association, the third term (2016-2021) was held at the National Library of Viet Nam.
Attending the meeting were Mr. Huynh Vinh Ai - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Prof. Dr. Dang Vu Minh - President of Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Information and Communications; and the participation of nearly 300 delegates representing all members of the library system in all parts of the country.
During the past term, the Executive Committee of Vietnamese Library Association has had more fully aware of the role, position and content operation of the Association's work. One of the key tasks is to build a system of grassroots organizations that all levels of the Association are interested in and initially achieved fairly good results. After 10 years, the Association has developed three new Union Associations, 10 Associations, attracted more than 2,000 new members bringing the total membership to 5,700 and 2,030 collective members. The Association has contributed to the success of the project building Vietnam Book Day; suggested to the Government on the issue of TPP agreement, other documents at the ministerial level and participated in social evaluation many scientific researches. The role of the Association is increasingly confirmed by the dynamic, creative, smart, practical leadership of the Standing Committee.
At the meeting, the ideas discussed were added to the final Report on the work of the second term (2011-2016). The Congress also unanimously approved the third term direction (2016- 2021) and key tasks are: To organize widely propagandizing activities about Library Association; to focus on developing the Association, the Union of Associations; to promote the role of the Association in their professional work; to improve the status of the Association; to respond Vietnam Book Day (21/4) and to participate in XVII and XVIII CONSAL meetings preparation.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Mr. Huynh Vinh Ai praised positive achievements that Vietnamese Library Association has achieved in the last term, also pointed out the positive results as well as limitations in the course of activities of the Association. He also expected that in the new term, Vietnamese Library Association would fulfill the orientation and tasks set out, build Vietnamese Library Association growing stronger, actually provide a link, a reliable place to absorb and reflect the inadequate issues of the library, effectively support the authorities in the national management for library activities, promote development of library activities, encourage and advocate members to carry out political tasks and mission of the library career in the context of accelerated industrialization, modernization and international integration.
Since the growth of the Association and the development of Vietnamese Library Industry, the Congress urged individual members and teams to be dynamic, creative and successful efforts to implement the direction, mission and goals that have been identified in the 3rd Resolution Congress Vietnam Library Association (2016 – 2021). Executive Committee III needs to uphold the spirit of solidarity, responsibility, dynamism and creativity in directing operations from the central to grassroots levels, to well implement the Resolution set out so that the Association actually becomes home to gather a large number of people working in the library.
Noting the contribution to the Association in recent years, Congress praised and awarded more than 80 Merit of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, the Central Vietnamese Library Association to groups and individuals achieving outstanding achievements in various fields.
The Congress unanimously elected 51 comrades to Executive Board of Vietnamese Library Association. Mr. Pham The Khang served as President of the Vietnamese Library Association.
At the same day, the 10th anniversary ceremony of the establishment and development of Vietnam Library Association was organized to summarize the achievements during the past journey.
